PAINTING:
Without a preconceived concept, I begin each canvas by layering, dripping and masking areas with acrylic paint. This process allows for guided serendipity and creates a rhythmic foundation of line, color, texture and shape. At this stage I follow my instincts and make unique associations and whimsical interpretations of the organic world.
My recent Floral Series explores abstract expressions of the natural world juxtaposed in a geometric man-made space. Color is an important element I implement to explore emotion and mood.
SCULPTURE:
I collect rusted and ruined post consumer cast-offs and recycle them into art. To me, these "artifacts" of the past seem to trigger an emotional response and convey a personal imagery. I am intrigued by their imperfect nature and often attracted to their form, color and texture.
The element of time and the resulting process of aging/decomposition exists in all living and inorganic things. This natural process results in beautiful, subtle coloration and texture. In my mind, connections are made between the organic and inorganic, the influence of time and the mortality of man/womankind.
